Is the AI you’re paying for worth it? In this session we look properly at one of your AI features, including how much time your team spends checking what it produces, and then at others if there’s time.
Who it’s for
Firms that are paying for AI, or have had it switched on in their software, and aren’t really sure whether it’s improving things. It’s also for firms where the partners have asked what they’re getting for the money.
It works best with the COO and whoever looks after the firm’s finances.
What happens
Before the session, you list the AI features and tools the firm pays for or has switched on, with what they cost, and put them in order of which you most want to look at.
In the session, we start with the one at the top of your list. What was it meant to do? Who uses it, and how often? How much time does it save, and how much time goes on checking what it produces? If it’s a fairly simple one, we’ll move on to the next.
We also look at the full cost, including add-ons, per-seat charges, and features that are free now but may not stay that way.
For each one, we decide whether to keep it as it is, change how it’s used, or stop paying for it.
Afterwards, I write it up so you can share it with the partners.
What you leave with
- A one-page view of each feature we look at, with whether to keep, change or stop it, and why
- A few numbers you can keep tracking yourselves, without it turning into a big project
- The template, so you can review the rest yourselves, or we can go through them together in another session

Why me
Once a product is live, a big part of a product manager’s job is checking whether it’s actually doing what it was meant to. I did that on AI products at the BBC and NatWest, so I know which numbers to look at to get a proper answer. More about me
What comes next
If you’re not sure what AI you’re paying for, start with Where is AI used in your firm? Before you take on anything new, Evaluating an AI option sets the measures up front. If you’d like someone to keep an eye on costs and new features as they arrive, that’s part of retained advisory.
If you run a professional body or a group of firms, this session also runs as a webinar.
